Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Ingredients
  

The Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb lean ground beef 90/10 preferred
  • 0.5 cup onion finely diced
  • 0.5 cup green bell pepper finely diced
  • 1 can (8oz) tomato sauce
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt to taste
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
Assembly
  • 8 slices frozen Texas Toast garlic butter flavor
  • 1.5 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange frozen Texas Toast slices on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake toast for 5-8 minutes until thawed and slightly golden (par-baked). Remove from oven.
  3. While toast bakes, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  4. Add diced onion and bell pepper to the beef. Cook 5 minutes until veggies are soft.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer sauce on low for 5 minutes until thickened.
  7. Spoon the meat mixture generously onto each slice of par-baked toast.
  8. Top each toast with shredded cheddar cheese.
  9. Return to oven and bake for 5-8 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
