- Wash oranges thoroughly, dry completely, and cut exactly in half.
- In a saucepan, simmer sugar and water for 5-7 minutes until it forms a light syrup. Add extract, then let cool.
- Using a pastry brush, generously coat the cut flesh of the oranges with the cooled syrup.
- While tacky, use a dry brush to tap edible glitter and star sprinkles over the glossy flesh.
- Turn the orange halves over. Paint a very thin layer of clear piping gel or corn syrup over the exterior rind.
- Using culinary tweezers, painstakingly apply the edible metallic squares in circular rows until the rind looks like a disco ball.
- Use a dry, soft makeup brush to gently press the metallic tiles down and polish the surface. Serve immediately.
Notes
Store in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate after applying the metallic leaf, as condensation will dull the mirror effect.
