Ingredients

Glass Rim
  • 2 tbsp light corn syrup
  • 0.25 cup crushed rock candy assorted colors
The Potion
  • 2 oz grenadine or raspberry syrup
  • 1 cup clear ice cubes
  • 6-8 oz lemon-lime soda chilled (like Sprite or 7Up)
The Magic Topping
  • 1 packet Pop Rocks candy strawberry or cherry flavor
  • 1 tbsp fruity round candies like Skittles

Equipment

  • Heavy-bottomed glass
  • Shallow dishes
  • Rolling Pin
  • Paper straws

Method

  1. Place crushed rock candy in one shallow dish and corn syrup in another. Dip the rim of the serving glass into the corn syrup, then immediately into the crushed candy to coat it thickly. Set aside.
  2. Pour the grenadine or red syrup directly into the bottom of the prepared glass.
  3. Carefully fill the glass all the way to the top with clear ice cubes.
  4. Slowly pour the chilled lemon-lime soda over the ice to create a color gradient. Do not stir.
  5. Just before serving, sprinkle the packet of Pop Rocks and the round fruity candies directly onto the ice at the top of the glass.
  6. Add colorful paper straws and serve immediately while the drink is actively popping and fizzing.

Notes

Ensure you fill the glass completely to the top with ice so the Pop Rocks have a surface to rest on. If they fall directly into the liquid, they will dissolve and stop popping instantly.
