Ingredients

Drink Components
  • 1 oz Grenadine syrup
  • 4 oz lemonade or Sprite/7-Up
  • 1 oz blue sports drink e.g., Powerade or Gatorade
  • 2 cups crushed ice
Garnish
  • blue blueberries and cherry optional

Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Crushed ice maker or hammer
  • Bar spoon (or tablespoon)
  • Blue straw
  • Measuring spoons/cups

Method

  1. Fill a highball glass completely with crushed ice.
  2. Slowly pour the grenadine over the ice to create the bottom red layer.
  3. Using a bar spoon or regular spoon upside-down, hold it over the red layer. Gently pour the lemonade over the back of the spoon onto the ice, creating the middle white layer without forcefully mixing into the Grenadine.
  4. Using the same spoon technique, slowly pour the blue sports drink over the very top of the ice. The blue layer will float on top.
  5. Top with an optional blueberry and cherry garnish, insert the blue straw, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Density is key: use high-sugar grenadine on the bottom. Lemonade should be less dense than grenadine. The blue sports drink should be the least dense. For an adult cocktail version, replace the blue sports drink with blue curaƧao and add vodka to the lemonade. Crushed ice works best to stabilize the layers.
