Ingredients

Fruit Turtle Components
  • 3 large kiwis peeled and sliced thick
  • 1 bunch green grapes seedless, washed and dried
  • 2 tbsp mini chocolate chips for eyes
  • 1 tsp honey or yogurt optional, to use as edible glue

Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp paring knife
  • Serving platter

Method

  1. Thoroughly wash and completely dry the green grapes to ensure the chocolate chips will stick later.
  2. Carefully peel the kiwis and cut them crosswise into thick, round slices (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick). These are the turtle shells.
  3. Select 12 whole grapes to use as the turtle heads. Cut the remaining grapes in half lengthwise to create the turtle legs.
  4. Lay the kiwi slices flat on a serving platter. Place one whole grape at the top of each slice for the head.
  5. Arrange four grape halves around the sides of each kiwi slice to act as the four legs.
  6. Gently press two mini chocolate chips into the top of each whole grape to make the eyes. If they won't stick, use a tiny dab of honey or yogurt to secure them.
  7. Serve immediately or cover tightly and refrigerate until ready to eat.

Notes

Ensure grapes are completely dry before attaching eyes. For younger toddlers, cut the grape 'heads' in half as well to prevent choking hazards.
