Hot Honey Shrimp

Crispy, golden-fried shrimp tossed in a homemade sweet and spicy sticky hot honey glaze, garnished with fresh parsley.

Ingredients
  

Shrimp & Batter
  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.25 cup buttermilk
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying
Hot Honey Sauce
  • 0.5 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven
  • Deep-fry thermometer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Wire cooling rack

Method
 

  1. Pat the peeled and deveined shrimp completely dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, and all dry spices.
  3. Dip shrimp in the egg wash, then dredge fully in the flour mixture. Set aside on a wire rack.
  4. In a small saucepan, melt butter and whisk in honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, cayenne, garlic, and vinegar. Keep warm on low heat.
  5. Heat 2 inches of oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry shrimp in batches for 3-4 minutes until deeply golden brown and crispy. Drain on a clean wire rack.
  7. Transfer fried shrimp to a large bowl, pour the warm hot honey sauce over them, and gently toss to coat completely.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and extra red pepper flakes. Serve immediately.

Notes

To reheat, use an air fryer or oven at 375°F for 4-5 minutes. Avoid microwaving.
