Ingredients

Hot Chocolate Base
  • 2 cups whole milk or a rich plant-based alternative
  • 4 tbsp quality hot chocolate powder or 2 tbsp cocoa + 2 tbsp sugar, to taste
Toppings Mountain
  • 1 cup whipped cream from a can or fresh, stable
  • 0.5 cup mini marshmallows
  • 0.25 cup dark chocolate shavings from a quality bar
  • 2 tbsp rich chocolate syrup for drizzle

Equipment

  • Clear glass mug
  • Whisk or milk frother
  • Fine grater (e.g., microplane)
  • Kitchen blowtorch (optional for marshmallow toasting)

Method

  1. Choose a clear glass mug and pour a deliberate ring of chocolate syrup around both the inner and outer rim, creating a beautiful cascade.
  2. Prepare your favorite hot chocolate base, heating the milk and frothing it extensively. Make it slightly hotter than normal.
  3. Carefully pour the frothy hot chocolate into the mug, filling it to just below the rim to support the mountain.
  4. Create a massive, stable mountain of whipped cream. Start a stable base around the rim and spiral upward.
  5. Build your marshmallow ascent by placing mini marshmallows into the whipped cream mountain. Be generous.
  6. Optional: Use a small kitchen blowtorch to lightly toast the mini marshmallows for a smoky flavor.
  7. Finally, create the dark chocolate peak by grating the dark chocolate bar directly over the toppings to create a dense layer of delicate shavings.
  8. Serve immediately with a long spoon to capture every decadent layer.

Notes

Using quality, high-cocoa dark chocolate for shavings and a rich, thicker syrup for the exterior glaze is key for both flavor and presentation. The blowtorch step adds a wonderful caramelized element.
