Method
- Choose a clear glass mug and pour a deliberate ring of chocolate syrup around both the inner and outer rim, creating a beautiful cascade.
- Prepare your favorite hot chocolate base, heating the milk and frothing it extensively. Make it slightly hotter than normal.
- Carefully pour the frothy hot chocolate into the mug, filling it to just below the rim to support the mountain.
- Create a massive, stable mountain of whipped cream. Start a stable base around the rim and spiral upward.
- Build your marshmallow ascent by placing mini marshmallows into the whipped cream mountain. Be generous.
- Optional: Use a small kitchen blowtorch to lightly toast the mini marshmallows for a smoky flavor.
- Finally, create the dark chocolate peak by grating the dark chocolate bar directly over the toppings to create a dense layer of delicate shavings.
- Serve immediately with a long spoon to capture every decadent layer.
Notes
Using quality, high-cocoa dark chocolate for shavings and a rich, thicker syrup for the exterior glaze is key for both flavor and presentation. The blowtorch step adds a wonderful caramelized element.
