Ingredients

Cocktail Base
  • 1 cup frozen dark sweet cherries pitted
  • 2 oz espresso freshly brewed and completely chilled
  • 3 oz vodka
  • 1.5 oz coffee liqueur like Kahlua
  • 1 tbsp cherry syrup from cocktail cherries or grenadine
  • 1.5 cups ice cubes adjust for desired thickness
Garnish
  • 2 fresh cherries with stems

Equipment

  • High-powered blender
  • Coupe or Martini glasses
  • Espresso machine or Moka pot

Method

  1. Brew the espresso and chill it in the refrigerator or freezer until completely cold.
  2. Place two coupe or martini glasses in the freezer to chill.
  3. Add the frozen cherries, chilled espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, cherry syrup, and ice to a high-powered blender.
  4. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until the mixture is a smooth, thick, slushy consistency.
  5. Pour the frozen mixture evenly into the chilled glasses.
  6. Garnish each cocktail with a fresh cherry and serve immediately.

Notes

Using chilled espresso is critical; hot coffee will melt the ice instantly and ruin the slushy texture. For a creamier drink, add a splash of heavy cream before blending.
