Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 0.25 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon zest optional
  • 1 cup strawberries diced small
Wrappers & Frying
  • 24 wonton wrappers square
  • 1 egg beaten with water
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
Strawberry Sauce
  • 1 cup strawberries fresh or frozen
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • Slotted spoon
  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer

Method
 

  1. In a medium bowl, beat softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth.
  2. Lay out wonton wrappers. Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center and top with a piece of strawberry.
  3. Brush edges of wrapper with egg wash. Bring corners together and seal tightly to form a pouch or triangle.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry wontons in small batches for 1-2 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
  7. For the sauce: Simmer strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan until thickened.
  8. Serve warm wontons with strawberry dipping sauce.

Notes

Ensure wrappers are sealed completely to prevent filling from leaking into the oil.
