- Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold just until combined. Lumps are okay; do not overmix. Let batter rest for 5 minutes.
- Pour batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crisp.
- Transfer the hot waffle to a plate, cut into bite-sized squares, and serve immediately generously topped with butter and warm syrup.
Notes
Do not stack hot waffles or they will lose their crispness. Keep them warm in a 200°F oven on a wire rack if making a large batch.
