Ingredients

Garnish & Rim
  • 1 tbsp Honey or Simple Syrup for rimming
  • 2 tbsp Graham Cracker Crumbs crushed finely
  • 2 Fresh Blackberries whole
Cocktail Base
  • 4-5 Fresh Blackberries
  • 0.5 oz Honey Syrup or agave
  • 0.5 oz Lemon Juice freshly squeezed
  • 1.5 oz Blackberry Whiskey (e.g., Bird Dog or Ole Smoky)
Topping
  • 1.5 oz Rumchata chilled
  • Ice Cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Muddler
  • Rocks Glass
  • Saucers for rimming

Method

  1. Prepare two shallow dishes: one with honey/syrup and one with crushed graham cracker crumbs.
  2. Dip the rim of a rocks glass into the honey, then into the crumbs to coat the edge. Set aside.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, add the 4-5 fresh blackberries, lemon juice, and honey syrup.
  4. Muddle the ingredients thoroughly until the berries are broken down and juicy.
  5. Add the Blackberry Whiskey to the shaker and fill 3/4 full with ice.
  6. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to chill.
  7. Fill the rimmed glass with fresh ice. Strain (or pour with fruit for texture) the purple mixture into the glass.
  8. Slowly pour the Rumchata over the back of a spoon to float it on top of the blackberry layer.
  9. Garnish with fresh blackberries on a pick and serve immediately.

Notes

To make your own honey syrup, mix 2 parts honey with 1 part warm water until dissolved. This mixes better in cold drinks than pure honey.
